1908 | The Clare Golf Club foundation year. It is now one of the oldest golf clubs in SA. The first course covered land now occupied by Lake Inchiquin and the Housing Trust Estate. Some of the holes used then still exist as part of the present course layout. The first clubhouse was located just across the road from the hospital. This was probably no accident as the story is that two keen golfing doctors were instrumental in the early growth of the club. |
1957 | The Club commenced again after inactivity just prior to World War II. Meanwhile, a number of small clubs had developed in Watervale, Blyth and Farrell Flat. |
1958 | A new course was laid out around the old racecourse and showgrounds south of Clare |
1978 | The current site was purchased including some of the land that made up the original course |
1990 | Greens were installed |
1991 | 1st Club Championships played on the greens |
1994 | The adjacent Clare Country Club was opened and has proven to be an asset for the Club by attracting golfers from around SA and interstate and overseas visitors |
2008 | Celebration of 100yrs of golf in the Clare Valley |
The course and greens of the Club are now well recognized as one of the best country courses in the state.
The course plays 5899 metres (Mens) and 5142 (Ladies). Par is 72 and the AMCR is 72 (blue tees) and the AWCR is 73
